Kuchenvlyctus was born in 2005 from the shared vision of three passionate ecologists who met during a conservation project in the Carpathian Mountains. Witnessing firsthand the devastating effects of deforestation and habitat loss, Dr. Elena Popescu, Mihai Antonescu, and Andreea Dumitrescu decided to create an organization that would bridge the gap between scientific research and practical environmental solutions.
Starting with a small office in Bucharest and a team of just five dedicated individuals, we initially focused on local conservation projects and educational workshops for schools. Our breakthrough came in 2009 when we successfully implemented a watershed restoration project in collaboration with the Romanian Environmental Agency, which earned national recognition for its innovative approach to water management.
Over the years, we've expanded our reach across Romania and into neighboring countries, establishing partnerships with international conservation organizations, academic institutions, and forward-thinking businesses. Today, Kuchenvlyctus comprises a diverse team of over 30 environmental specialists, from ecologists and biologists to sustainable agriculture experts and environmental educators.
Despite our growth, we remain true to our founding principles: science-based approaches, community engagement, and a deep respect for the intricate balance of natural systems. With a Ph.D. in Conservation Biology from the University of Bucharest, Elena leads our research initiatives and scientific partnerships. Her groundbreaking work on forest ecosystem restoration has been recognized with multiple international awards. Elena brings 20 years of experience in ecological research and has published over 40 scientific papers on biodiversity conservation.
Co-founder & Operations Director
Mihai combines his background in Environmental Management with extensive experience in project implementation. Before co-founding Kuchenvlyctus, he worked with the World Wildlife Fund on transboundary conservation initiatives. Mihai excels at building partnerships with government agencies, businesses, and community organizations to create effective environmental programs.

With a Master's degree in Agroecology and over 15 years of field experience, Andreea leads our sustainable agriculture initiatives. Education & Community Outreach Director
Stefan joined Kuchenvlyctus in 2010 after a career in science education. With his background in Environmental Communication and natural charisma, he has transformed our educational programs into engaging experiences that inspire action. Stefan develops curricula for schools, coordinates volunteer programs, and leads our citizen science initiatives that connect communities with their local ecosystems.
